Alsace is France's smallest region. Its location in the north east of the country bordering Switzerland and Germany is ideally situated at the heart of the continent.

GASTRONOMY

Ginger bread Palace The Gingerbread Palace at Gertwiller is an 800m² building dedicated entirely to gingerbread ! The Palace is filled with delicious scents of honey, cinnamon and ginger that tells the story of this sweet treat which has been enjoyed for many centuries.

New Chocolate Road Alsace has a long tradition of manufacturing chocolate and has become France.s leading chocolate exporting region. Around forty patissier and chocolatiers have joined to share their know-how starting at the Museum of Chocolate. This is the perfect chance to meet the experts and discover the specialities of the region.

CULTURAL

Ecomusée d.Alsace. The 20 hectares Ecomusée d.Alsace museum features 70 original half-timbered buildings from Alsace.s past which have been reconstructed around a square amongst cultivated land and a forest. The houses, barns, craft workshops and exhibitions show what it was like to live in rural Alsace in the 19th and 20th centuries. Visitors are welcome to stay overnight at the Loges de l.Ecomusée inn.

Colmar International Music Festival. Each year a music festival is held in July and dedicated to chosen composers or musicians. Up to date details can be found at France Guide.

Mulhouse Automobille Festival. Mulhouse Automobille Festival is held in July. Mulhouse is the European capital of museums and a mecca of classic and veteran automobiles. The Mulhouse Automobile Festival is founded on the ties that have united the town and the automotive world for decades, a connection based on the National Automobile Museum, its prestigious Schlumpf collection and the famous Bugatti marquee. Enthusiasts, young and old alike, can enjoy shows, events and parades on the city's streets.

Memorial Tourism. Often invaded, Alsace has become a powerful symbol of the various conflicts that have erupted in Europe over the centuries. There are several places of remembrance, where future generations can learn about the past including the Maginot Line, the Alsace Moselle Memorial and the European Centre of Deported Resistance.
