Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon lies on the south coast of France between the Rhone delta and Spain and has over 112 miles (180km) of beaches. The population is approximately two and a half million and it covers 10,600 square miles (27,400 square km). The main towns are Cerdagne, Collioure, Aigues Mortes, Montpellier, Carcassonne, The economy of the area once depended on the production of wine but now the tourist industry has taken over.

In winter, in the department of Lozere in the north of Languedoc-Roussillon it is very good for skiing holidays. Both cross-country and alpine skiing is available on the slopes in the Cevennes Mountains just about one and a half hours drive from Nimes and Montpellier. There are two mountain ranges in the area, the Pyrenees and the Cevennes. Neither are as dramatic as the Alps but they offer about seventy five ski runs and offer the cheapest prices of all the ski resorts in France.
