The northern Alps in France offers some of the finest skiing in the world. The northern Alps has many peaks of some 4,000 metres stretching from the south of Grenoble to Lake Geneva. There are over 170 ski resorts , many of them offering self catering ski chalets and skiing villas. Several million people vist the area each year looking for skiing holidays. Western Europe's highest mountain Mont Blanc dominates the small alpine town of Chamonix Mont Blanc which towers to 4807 meters.
Skiing areas in the norther Alps are: Aravis, Bauges, Beaufortain, Belledonne, Bornes, Chablais. Chartreuse, Faucigny - Grand, Massif, Matheysine, Maurienne, Mont-Blanc, Oisans, Tarentaise, Val d'Arly, Vanoise, Vercors.
